Methodist is committed
to ranking in the Top 5% in the U.S. in everything they do.
In 2004, Methodist became the first hospital in downstate
Illinois to receive the Magnet Award for Excellence in Nursing
Services from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the
highest honor in patient care. Methodist also received McKesson
Information Solutions’ 2004 VIP Award recognizing Vision
and Innovation in the use of information technology.
Methodist has long been a leader in heart
care, with the area’s longest continuously running open
heart program. The beautiful Methodist Heart, Lung and Vascular
Institute, a new concept in cardiovascular care, puts all
the services a patient needs – from diagnosis to treatment
– in one convenient location, along with space for researchers
and fellows, physician offices, and an interactive video conference
center. The Methodist Emergency Department is home to Peoria’s
largest dedicated Chest Pain Center. The HeartStat program
helicopters heart attack patients to Methodist from throughout
the region for immediate treatment. And in June 2005, the
Methodist Heart, Lung and Vascular Institute hosts Advances
in Interventional Electrophysiology: The Fifth International
Symposium, welcoming electrophysiologists, cardiologists
and other specialists from around the world.
In addition to its leading-edge offerings
in heart care, Methodist features state-of-the-art diagnostic
services. Methodist’s Open PET/CT scanner is the first
in the world with the next generation of PET technology. It
helps doctors pinpoint cancer in the body, even at the very
earliest stage. Other uses include early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s,
as well as a growing number of cardiology applications. With
the ultra-fast, multi-slice CT scanners at Methodist, doctors
are able to look inside the heart without surgery. The new
non-invasive Coronary CT Angiogram uses advanced 3-D imaging
to look for fatty or calcium deposits that can lead to a heart
attack.
Methodist takes a pro-active approach to
health and wellness. The Methodist Wellmobile brings free
screenings, including blood pressure, blood glucose, and cholesterol
testing, to people wherever they work, shop or play. The Methodist
MammoVan makes mammography convenient for women throughout
our community. Methodist also features the most comprehensive
behavioral health services in the area
